That'll
Be The Day - The New Clovis Sessions - In
1955, Norman Petty opened a recording studio in Clovis, New
Mexico, a small town near the Texas border. In early 1957,
Buddy Holly and the Crickets recorded "That'll Be the
Day" and the song's huge success made Holly a star. Over
the next two years, Holly and his Crickets produced a string
of hits that defined early rock and roll.
Fifty years after Buddy Holly came to Clovis, the Petty Studio
reopened to record The New Clovis Sessions. These are the
first new rescordings since the studio was closed shortly
after Holly's tragic death in 1959. Several of Buddy Holly's
original bandmates returned to the studio for these recordings.

The New Clovis Sessions
are a tribute to Buddy Holly, the Crickets and the music of their
era. The recordings include many of Holly’s earliest songs,
and rockabilly, pop and early rock and roll standards from the era.
Several of Holly’s Bandmates contributed to this effort –
Tommy Allsup, Larry Welborn, Jack Neal, David Bigham, and Gary &
Ramona Tollett. They were joined by John Mueller and the fantastic
Winter Dance Party Band. Blues piano player Daryl Davis, who plays
for Chuck Berry is also featured. A fantastic collection.
